There is always something wonderful to see. During the winter we have a host of amazing sea birds that visit the San Juan Islands. This is a great opportunity for bird watching from kayak and you never know what else you might see. Various sea birds make the waters around San Juan Island their winter home. Bald Eagles can be seen patrolling the water for food or sitting atop a large fir tree. Harbor Seal and Stellar Sea Lions swim the waters in search of food as well. Though not the most common time of year to see killer whales. They are still reported during the winter month passing by San Juan Island. Everyday is a different day when your on the water. That is part of the adventure.
More than anything it can be a wonderful time on the water without the congestion of power boats and other kayakers.
The weather can be bit more unpredictable this time of year some we do have to cancel a trip from time to time. We only cancel if the winds are strong and group safety becomes an issue. But be sure to be ready for cool air and rain. It is true that San Juan Island can be sunny and beautiful in the winter months but we get our share of Pacific Northwest rain. So be prepared.
So get in touch with us if you are interested in doing a bit of kayaking this winter.
